'70s 2nd Generation #0031 or 3rd Generation #0073

The D-TONE Overdrive Specialist Pre-Classic is a tube guitar head featuring two independent CLEAN and OVERDRIVE channels. Its layout is based on the ODS-style '70s 2nd-generation #0031 or 3rd-generation #0073 amplifiers (featuring a low-plate configuration, "Pre-Classic" tone stack, and "Pre-Standard" OD).

The head is available only in 50W (2x6L6 tubes). Like all boutique amplifiers, D-TONE amps are 100% hand-wired, soldered point-to-point (P2P) on a turret board – exactly the way amplifiers were built between 1950 and 1970. This method has a significant impact on the tone, because each element is connected directly using a turret pin rather than a thin track on a PCB.

To achieve a tone and response as close as possible to the original, D-TONE AMPS utilizes components meticulously matched to those found in the ODS amplifier:

Just like in the original ODS-style amplifiers, we use transformers designed for the Fender Bassman Amp model. These are premium replacements manufactured in the USA to the exact original specifications for Tube Amp Doctor. They guarantee the unmistakable, iconic sound of the Blackface era.

The CLEAN channel delivers a crystal-clear and dynamic tone, reminiscent of classic Fender Tweed amps. The OVERDRIVE channel, thanks to the specific cascaded preamp design, features a "sharp" distortion rich in harmonics. Just like the original ODS amp, it delivers an overdrive with a violin-like sustain.
Like the original ODS head, our amp features three toggle switches:
BRIGHT - high-frequency boost
DEEP - low-frequency boost
JAZZ/ROCK - the JAZZ mode offers a cleaner, flatter tone, while ROCK boosts the mids and dynamics 

The amplifier features two inputs, NOR and FET, which set it apart from many classic tube heads. The NOR input is a standard 1M-impedance jack. The FET input is driven by a 2n4416 JFET transistor, exactly like in the original D-Style head; it provides an additional signal boost and is dedicated to electric guitars with low-output pickups.

The front panel features two additional switches: MANUAL/PEDAL for switching channels, and ACCENT for boosting very high frequencies. 
Just like the 3rd-generation ODS amplifiers, our amp doesn't have a Volume knob on the OD channel - the OVERDRIVE potentiometer is the only available control and is used to adjust the amount of distortion. 
The LEVEL control is essentially a Master Volume, regulating the output of the power amp section.

Speaker Outputs – to accommodate any cabinet setup, our amplifier offers flexible routing options supporting either a single 4-Ohm load (or two 8-Ohm cabs) as well as a single 8-Ohm load (or two 16-Ohm cabs).

For the most demanding users, we installed a Zero-Loss Active FX Loop with a true bypass switch.

This is a simple circuit based on the LND150 transistor, designed to emulate the famous Dumbleator. Our layout offers a distinct advantage: it does not introduce an additional tube circuit into the signal path, thereby minimizing noise and distortion.

Two independent CLEAN and OVERDRIVE channels, make the D-TONE Overdrive Specialist exceptionally versatile. Switching channels can also be done via the included footswitch, which is incredibly useful when playing live on stage.

The Overdrive Specialist head is available in two power supply versions: 230V and 120V.
